About Free JPG to PNG Converter

JPG and PNG are the two most widely used image formats on the internet, each serving a different purpose. JPG (also called JPEG) uses lossy compression to produce very small file sizes, making it ideal for photographs and web images where a small reduction in quality is acceptable. PNG, on the other hand, uses lossless compression and supports full transparency via an alpha channel, making it the go-to format for logos, icons, screenshots, UI elements, and any graphic that requires crisp edges or see-through backgrounds.

Our free JPG to PNG converter lets you transform any JPG, JPEG, BMP, or WebP image into a high-quality PNG file in seconds — directly in your browser, with no software to install and no account required. Whether you need to preserve transparency for a logo, convert a product photo for an ecommerce site, or prepare graphics for a presentation, this tool handles it all. The conversion process is completely private: your files are never stored, analysed, or shared after processing.

Key Features

Everything you need — no software installation required.

🔒

100% Lossless Output

PNG uses lossless compression, meaning every pixel in your output image is identical to the input — no additional quality degradation occurs during conversion. Once your JPG is converted to PNG, all existing image data is preserved faithfully.

Full Transparency Support

PNG supports an alpha channel for transparent backgrounds. If your source image has a transparent layer (e.g. WebP with alpha), that transparency is retained in the output PNG. Perfect for logos and icons that need clear backgrounds.

📁

Multiple Input Formats

Beyond JPG and JPEG, you can also convert BMP, WebP, and PNG files. Whether you are working with a classic Windows BMP, a modern WebP photo, or simply need to re-save a compressed PNG as a fresh lossless copy, this converter handles it.

Instant Browser Conversion

No upload queues, no waiting. Your image is processed in milliseconds using fast server-side conversion powered by high-performance image libraries. For typical photos, conversion completes in under two seconds regardless of resolution.

🛡️

Privacy First — Zero Storage

Your image files are uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection, converted immediately, and then permanently deleted from our servers. We do not store, index, or share any uploaded files under any circumstances.

📱

Works on All Devices

The tool is fully responsive and works on desktop computers, tablets, and smartphones. No app download required — just open your browser, upload your image, and download the PNG output directly to your device.

How to Use Free JPG to PNG Converter

Get your result in seconds — completely free, no registration needed.

1

Upload your image file

Click the upload area or drag and drop your JPG, JPEG, BMP, or WebP image. The upload supports files up to 50 MB. You can also paste an image URL if you want to convert an image from the web without downloading it first.

2

Review the preview

Once uploaded, a preview of your image appears. Check that the correct image is loaded and the dimensions look right. You can see the original file size and resolution displayed beneath the preview.

3

Click Convert to PNG

Press the Convert to PNG button. The conversion runs on our server using high-fidelity image processing that preserves all pixel data. Processing typically completes in 1–2 seconds for standard photos and in under five seconds for very large images.

4

Download your PNG file

The output PNG file is ready to download immediately after conversion. Click the Download button to save the file to your device. The downloaded file retains the original image dimensions, and if the source had an alpha channel, that transparency is preserved.

Supported Input Formats

Wide format support ensures compatibility with virtually any file you upload.

💡

Converting JPG to PNG does not recover lost quality

It is important to understand that JPG compression is irreversible. If your JPG photo already shows JPEG artefacts (blocky areas around edges), converting to PNG will preserve those artefacts — it will not restore the original quality. PNG ensures no further quality loss going forward, but it cannot undo past compression.

💡

PNG files are larger than JPGs — plan your storage

Because PNG is lossless, PNG files are typically 3–5x larger than equivalent JPG files for photographs. This is expected behaviour. If file size is critical (e.g. for web performance), use the PNG only where transparency or crispness is required, and keep JPGs for photographic content.

💡

Use WebP for modern browsers instead of PNG where possible

If you are converting images for a website, consider using WebP instead of PNG. WebP lossless is typically 25–30% smaller than PNG with identical visual quality. Our WebP Converter can handle this conversion if needed.

💡

Batch convert multiple images with the same settings

If you need to convert many images, our tool processes one at a time. For large batches, consider using an offline tool like ImageMagick with the command: mogrify -format png *.jpg — it converts all JPGs in a folder simultaneously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Free JPG to PNG Converter.

What is the difference between JPG and PNG?
JPG (JPEG) uses lossy compression, making files smaller but permanently discarding some image data. PNG uses lossless compression and supports full transparency via an alpha channel. JPG is best for photographs where file size matters; PNG is best for logos, icons, screenshots, and images that need crisp edges or transparent backgrounds.
Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
Converting from JPG to PNG will not restore quality that was already lost during JPG compression. However, saving as PNG ensures no additional quality loss occurs if the image is resaved. This is useful when you need to edit and re-save an image multiple times, since repeated JPG saves progressively degrade quality.
Does PNG support transparency?
Yes. PNG supports a full alpha channel, allowing pixels to be fully transparent, fully opaque, or anywhere in between. However, JPG does not have an alpha channel, so if you convert a JPG to PNG, the result will not have a transparent background — it will have the same opaque background as the original JPG. You need a background removal tool to achieve transparency.
What file size limit is supported?
You can upload images up to 50 MB in size. This is sufficient for very high-resolution photos, RAW exports, and large print-quality artwork. For files larger than 50 MB, consider using desktop tools such as GIMP, Photoshop, or ImageMagick which handle extremely large files more efficiently.
Are my images stored on your servers?
No. Your images are uploaded over HTTPS, converted immediately, and deleted permanently from our servers as soon as the converted file is ready for download. We do not store, cache, log, or share any uploaded images for any purpose.
Can I convert multiple images at once?
The current version of the tool converts one image at a time. If you need batch conversion, you can use it multiple times in quick succession. For large batches of hundreds or thousands of images, command-line tools like ImageMagick or GraphicsMagick are more efficient options.
What is the output PNG quality like?
The output PNG file uses PNG level 9 compression, which is the maximum lossless compression. This produces the smallest possible PNG file while retaining 100% of the image quality. The conversion does not resample, downscale, or alter the image colours in any way.
Will the converted PNG have the same dimensions as the original?
Yes. The output PNG has exactly the same width and height in pixels as your input image. The conversion does not resize or crop the image. If you need to resize the image during conversion, use our Image Resizer tool separately before or after conversion.
Does the converter work on mobile devices?
Yes. The tool is fully responsive and works on iOS Safari, Android Chrome, and all major mobile browsers. You can upload images directly from your phone's camera roll, convert them, and download the PNG to your device without installing any app.
What happens if I convert a PNG to PNG?
If you upload a PNG file and convert it, the tool will re-encode it as a fresh PNG file with level 9 compression. This can sometimes reduce the file size if the original PNG was saved with lower compression settings. The image quality will be identical.
