1General Questions

What is SaveOnlineVideos?
SaveOnlineVideos is a free online media toolkit with 28+ tools for video, image, audio, and everyday file tasks. You can convert, compress, trim, resize, and edit files directly in your browser — no software to install and no account required.
Is SaveOnlineVideos completely free?
Yes. All tools are free to use with no usage limits, no watermarks on output files, and no account required. The site is ad-supported: you may see advertisements on the page, which allows us to keep all tools free for everyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No. None of our tools require an account or registration. Open any tool page, upload your file, process it, and download the result. No email address or personal information is required.
Which browsers are supported?
All modern browsers are supported: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera on desktop and mobile. We recommend using a recent version of your browser for the best performance. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Does SaveOnlineVideos work on mobile phones?
Yes. All tools work in mobile browsers on iPhone (Safari) and Android (Chrome). Since processing happens on our server, even older or slower devices can handle large files. The interface adapts for smaller screens.
How many tools are available?
There are currently 28 tools across four categories: 7 video tools, 8 image tools, 4 audio tools, and 10 utility tools (PDF, QR code, password, JSON, and more). New tools are added regularly — check the changelog for what's new.
Is there a daily or monthly usage limit?
There are no daily or monthly usage limits. You can use any tool as many times as you need. However, we reserve the right to rate-limit requests from automated scripts or bulk API usage to ensure fair access for all users.
Can I use SaveOnlineVideos tools for commercial purposes?
Yes. You may use the tools to process files for commercial projects — compressing images for a client's website, converting videos for a business, etc. You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to any content you process.

2Privacy & Security

Are my files private? Can you see them?
Your files are uploaded to our server solely to perform the requested processing. We do not view, access, or review your file contents. Files are deleted from our server immediately after you download the processed result — typically within minutes. We do not store your files long-term.
Do you store uploaded files?
No. Files are processed on demand and deleted immediately after download. There is no file storage system — we do not keep archives of processed files. Once you close the page or download your result, the file is gone from our server.
Is the file transfer encrypted?
Yes. All connections to SaveOnlineVideos use HTTPS (TLS encryption). This means your file uploads and downloads are encrypted in transit and cannot be intercepted by third parties on the network.
Do you collect any personal data?
We collect anonymized analytics data (page views, browser type, approximate location) through Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. We do not collect personally identifiable information unless you contact us. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Is it safe to process sensitive documents?
We process your files with reasonable security measures and delete them immediately after use. However, for highly sensitive documents — legal contracts, medical records, financial documents — we recommend using a local desktop application that processes files entirely on your device, ensuring your data never leaves your computer.
Do you comply with GDPR?
Yes. We comply with GDPR requirements. We collect minimal data, we do not store user files, and we provide clear information about how data is used in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. EU users may request data deletion by contacting us.

3File & Format Questions

What is the maximum file size?
File size limits vary by tool: Video tools support up to 2 GB. Image tools support up to 50 MB. Audio tools support up to 500 MB. PDF tools support up to 50–100 MB. These limits ensure fair server usage and reasonable processing times.
Why does processing take a long time?
Processing time depends on file size, the operation being performed, and current server load. A 100 MB video conversion typically takes 30–90 seconds. Very large files (over 1 GB) may take several minutes. Image and audio tools are usually faster. If a tool seems stuck for more than 10 minutes, try again with a smaller file.
Will there be quality loss during conversion?
It depends on the formats involved. Converting between two lossy formats (e.g., MP4 to WebM) involves some quality loss. Converting from lossless to lossy (WAV to MP3) involves quality loss but at high bitrates it is inaudible. We use high-quality encoding settings to minimize any degradation. Converting from lossy to lossless (JPEG to PNG) does not add back lost detail.
What video formats are supported?
Input: MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, MKV, FLV, WMV, and more. Output: MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP9), MOV. The specific formats vary by tool — each tool page lists the supported formats.
What image formats are supported?
Input: JPEG/JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, TIFF, HEIC (on supported devices). Output: JPEG, PNG, WebP, BMP, ICO (favicon tool). The specific formats vary by tool.
What audio formats are supported?
Input: MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, M4A, WMA, AIFF. Output: MP3, WAV, AAC. Files up to 500 MB are supported.

4Video Tools FAQ

What is the best format for uploading to YouTube?
YouTube recommends MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. Use our Video Format Converter to convert your video to MP4 before uploading. 1080p or higher resolution is recommended for best quality on YouTube.
How much can I compress a video without it looking bad?
A well-encoded H.264 MP4 at CRF 23 (our medium compression setting) is typically 80–90% smaller than the raw original with no visible quality loss at normal viewing sizes. For very aggressive compression, quality will degrade — high-motion scenes suffer most. Start with medium compression and only increase if needed.
Can I trim a video to remove the beginning and end?
Yes. Our Video Trimmer lets you specify exact start and end times in seconds. Enter the times, upload your video, and download the trimmed clip.
How do I extract audio from a video file?
Use our Audio Extractor tool. Upload your video, choose an output format (MP3, WAV, or AAC), and download the audio track. The video file is not modified.

5Image Tools FAQ

How do I compress an image without losing visible quality?
Use our Image Compressor tool. Set compression to Low or Medium for best quality. At medium compression, JPEG images are typically 60–80% smaller with no visible change at normal display sizes.
How do I convert a JPG to PNG?
Use our JPG to PNG Converter. Upload your JPEG file and download the PNG. Note that PNG files will be larger than the original JPG because PNG uses lossless compression.
How do I generate a favicon for my website?
Use our Favicon Generator. Upload a square image (PNG with transparent background works best, 512×512 or larger). Download the ZIP file containing all 7 PNG sizes plus a favicon.ico file. Place favicon.ico in your website root and reference the PNG sizes in your HTML head.
Does the background remover work on complex backgrounds?
Our Background Remover works best on images with plain, uniform backgrounds (white, solid color). Complex backgrounds — outdoor scenes, patterns, gradients — will give imperfect results. For professional-grade background removal on complex images, dedicated AI tools like Remove.bg are more capable.

6Audio Tools FAQ

What is the best MP3 bitrate for music?
For music where quality matters, use 320 Kbps — the maximum for MP3, providing near-CD quality. For casual listening or streaming, 192 Kbps is excellent. For speech (podcasts, audiobooks, voice recordings), 128 Kbps is sufficient and produces much smaller files.
Does the Audio Speed Changer affect sound quality?
Our speed changer uses high-quality time-stretching algorithms that change playback speed without changing pitch (pitch correction is on by default). There is a slight quality reduction at very extreme speeds (0.25x or 3x), but at common speeds (0.75x to 2x) the quality difference is minimal.
How much can I boost audio volume?
You can boost up to +20 dB or reduce up to -20 dB. Be cautious with large boosts on recordings with background noise — boosting volume also amplifies any noise present. A boost of 3–10 dB is typical for recordings that are too quiet.
Can I cut audio to exactly the right timestamp?
Our Audio Cutter accepts times in HH:MM:SS format, which gives second-level precision. For millisecond-precise cutting (needed for music production), a desktop audio editor like Audacity (free) gives more control.
